Scientists are studying ways to detect disease earlier, more curable when it might be, looking at families in which several people have developed cancer. Researchers are also looking for genes that may be involved. In January, scientists at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore said they had deciphered the genetic code, or genome, of neuroendocrine tumors, they expect to lead to better treatments.
